Introduction
Introduction to the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources
With the approval of Yazd University and the efforts of the Board of Trustees of Ardakan Higher Education Center, as one of its satellite branches, “Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ardakan University” initially began its activities in 1995 under the name of “Faculty of Natural Resources and Desert Studies,”. The faculty started by admitting students to the Bachelor’s (non-continuous) program in Range and Watershed Management. This trend of admitting students in this single field continued until 2004, when in October of that year, the Environmental Science program (Bachelor’s, non-continuous) was launched, followed by the Bachelor’s (non-continuous) program in Rehabilitation of Arid and Desert Areas in 2007.
Subsequently, the admission of the first cohort of students in the Bachelor’s (continuous) program in Range and Watershed Management began in 2010. In 2011, Ardakan Higher Education Center was promoted to Ardakan Higher Education Complex, and in 2013, it was elevated to Ardakan University. Gradually, the name of the faculty was changed to the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition to bachelor’s and master’s programs in Natural Resources Engineering (Range and Watershed Management and Desertification, currently known as Nature Engineering), and master’s programs in Rangeland Management, Watershed Management, and Desertification (now renamed to Desert Management and Control), the faculty also expanded its academic offerings to include bachelor’s and master’s programs in Agricultural Economics Engineering, Horticultural Science and Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Water Science and Engineering.
Over the years, distinguished individuals such as Dr. Mohammad Ali Hakimzadeh Ardakani, Dr. Ali Talebi, Dr. Ahmad Fattahi Ardakani, Dr. Majid Sadeghi Nia, the late Dr. Mohammad Hossein Hakimi Meybodi, Dr. Ali Fathzadeh, Dr. Somayeh Soltani Gerd Faramarzi, and Dr. Masoud Fehresti Sani have served as the deans of the faculty.
Currently, the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as the oldest faculty at Ardakan University, operates with various specialized laboratories—including Cartography, Geology and Geomorphology, Botany, Tissue Culture, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Soil Science, and Hydrology laboratories—as well as a greenhouse and a research farm. The faculty offers five undergraduate programs with a total of 328 students, and 15 master’s programs with 230 students, engaging actively in educational and research activities in the fields of agriculture and natural resources.
