Environmental Science

Environmental Science is the study of natural processes that occur in the environment and how humans influence them. The ideas of Environmental Science are closely related to Ecology, a branch of science that deals with the interrelations among plants, animals, and their environment. The emergence of Environmental Science as a discipline occurred in the last three decades of the twentieth century, and its watershed moment was the publication of Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring. Environmental protection in the twenty-first century is recognized as one of the eight Millennium Development Goals and one of the three pillars of sustainable development. Today, Environmental Sciences is an interdisciplinary university field that integrates physics, chemistry, biology, meteorology, geography, and law to study the environment and to address environmental problems. Accordingly, an integrated, quantitative, and interdisciplinary approach to the study of environmental systems is offered. Professionals in this field are committed to ensuring that human activities do not harm the environment, and that this valuable resource remains for future generations. The Ardakan Faculty of Natural Resources was established in 1374 (1995/1996 CE), and the Environmental Sciences and Engineering Group began operating in 1383 (2004/2005 CE) with the admission of students to the undergraduate (bachelor’s) program. The first intake for the integrated bachelor’s degree program occurred in 1390 (2011/2012 CE). Subsequently, with the approval of the Supreme Council for Expansion in 1393 (2014/2015 CE), the Master’s program in Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Environmental Assessment was added to this group. Currently, this group has two faculty members with the rank of Associate Professor and two faculty members with the rank of Assistant Professor.
